Outstanding issues:

  1. Overheating/CPU throttling - undervolting, maybe?

  2. Photoshop UI is hella tiny - have yet to apply this fix

  3. Bitlocker seems to have encrypted my elementaryOS VM? Cannot open it  Oddly enough, it's working now. With me doing nothing. Hm.

  4. Palm rejection doesn't seem to be working so well.

  1. Touch screen responsiveness - fix

  2. Pen and touch hold-to-right-click delay - "Control Panel -> Pen and Touch. In Pen Options, go to the settings for press and hold play with the sliders. The first slider controls the amount of time it takes for the press-and-hold wheel to show up, and the second one controls the amount of time you have to have the hold pressed down. I changed them both to the absolute lowest for a much more responsive feeling. In the Flicks tab you can set up custom pen flicks and practice them."

  3. High DPI display and tiny buttons - Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display ; In Change the Size of All Items, set the slider to the penultimate groove. Uncheck "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays", and change the text size of all items to 11 and up (play around with it).

  4. Scrolling vs selecting with swipe gesture - You can start scrolling with two fingers and then lift the other one up after the scrolling is registered. One finger swipe is typically tied to selecting text. Depends.

Really Useful Shortcuts

  1. WIN + Power : Ctrl+Alt+Del

  2. WIN + Vol Down : Screenshot

  3. Pressing the purple 'eraser' on the pen brings up OneNote, even when the SP is asleep.

  4. Fn + Caps Lock : Switches the Fn / Alt Fn lock.

  5. Fn + Del/Backspace : Adjust brightness

10 Leverage icons made for Leverageland's Last Icon Maker Standing challenge, and 42 icons from Major Crimes 3x01. The MC icons are mostly just everyone's #judgingyou faces. Sharon, Provenza, and Hobbs have especially great #judgingyou faces.

Please credit if taking. :D

Week 2 of Dvorak! I admit I'm not using it daily because the key bindings for the usual shortcuts are off.

Dvorak: 14 WPM

(via http://typing-speed-test.aoeu.eu/?lang=en)

Still an improvement over last week! I better start getting serious about it though.

In other news, I finished watching Dennou Coil. I don't know why it's not a lot more popular. The plot was tight and I really liked the worldbuilding. At times, it reminded me of Caprica, but more rewatchable because it's more lighthearted. Also, as a coming-of-age show, and dealing with such themes as death/loss and letting go, it feels quite timeless. I also have this weakness for shows with so many different characters whose stories don't make sense at first but spin together as the series moves forward, like DRRR! and Monster, so I guess that's why I liked this so much. (That said, don't talk to me about Baccano! because I still, still, have not finished that anime. It gives me a headache.)

Visually, it's a joy to watch. The art is really crisp and it never becomes lazy. The animation is as fluid as a Ghibli film.

Dennou Coil is set in Daikoku City 20 years from present time, to an age where computer glasses are basically ubiquitous (or, the very near future if Google Glass becomes a hit). Dennou Coil gives us a look at what cyberspace might look like when IoT and augmented reality tech have been more or less fully realized--cyberpets walking around with their owners, big bloated antivirus software chasing hackers and viruses around the city... I won't lie--I'd like to live there for a month. *g*

The anime focuses on a  set of children and their misadventures with the cyberglasses. The first half of the story is more slice-of-life than anything else so it might drag for people who are not into the genre, but it does its job in setting up the mood and information you need for the second half of the series, which gets very plotty very quick.

There were some low points in the story, around the middle of the series--where we got a few recap episodes. Also, characters I thought would be featured more in the story actually got less and less screen time and plot value as it progressed.

Taeyang - Eyes, Nose, Lips

It used to be a cold day in Hell when I would even think of recommending any of Taeyang's solos, much less an entire album, but his latest album has been entirely pleasant to listen to. Indeed, it's all I've been listening to for the past few days. His voice control has improved a lot, and he no longer tries to reach those notes he can't.

It kinda reminds me of Seungri's V.V.I.P. album to be honest--which, barring What Can I Do? and V.V.I.P., were just lovely slow tracks.

My personal fave is the seventh track, which will remain named that way until someone tells me the English title of the song. XD

It rained very strongly early during the dawn--the kind with flashes of lightning and thunderclaps every ten seconds or so. It woke me up and I was afraid to go to sleep again, but I managed to. The result is this nice, misty weather I'm experiencing this morning. Perfect for hot chocolate. :) It's been a while since we've had this kind of weather. I'm gonna treasure it until the floods come killing everyone again.

So I have a new pet project: learning to type with Dvorak. *tacks it next to genetic algorithms and Javascript/jQuery and Adobe Illustrator*

I'll be monitoring my progress here per week. Let's see how much I progress in a month's time. :)

QWERTY: 69 wpm
Dvorak: 7 wpm (better than I had estimated...)

In other news, happy birthday to me! Gonna take Samantha's advice and go buy cake later or something. *g*

I went to watch Godzilla last Sunday, mostly because I liked Pacific Rim so much and wanted another dose of giant monsters vs humanity goodness. It was not what I had expected.Read more...Collapse )

A friend recced this fantastic anime to me weeks ago. (A-chan, if you're reading this, thank youuu!) It's called Gin no Saji or Silver Spoon, and it was written by Arakawa-sensei (Fullmetal Alchemist). That's reason enough to go watch/read it, if you know what I mean. ;)

It's basically a show about an agricultural high school. Hachiken Yuugo enters the school mostly as a way to escape from his family but ends up having a really great time there. It's slice-of-life and coming-of-age, my two favorite genres when done right and man does Arakawa-sensei do this thing justice. It's mostly hilarious but it doesn't pull any punches when it comes to how depressing reality can be.

Plus (or maybe a minus? but it's really a plus lbr), this anime has a lot of food porn. Do not watch it if you have no food on hand, especially if piping hot rice and grilled fish and fresh eggs are a turn-on. Unlike Cooking Master Boy, this anime can make you really fucking hungry.

Title: Raise Your Glass
Prompt: Leverageland Heist XII - Generations: Wedding
Summary: They were drunk enough that the handcuffs sounded like a good idea. Post-series.
Characters/Pairing: Sophie Devereaux/Nathan Ford, James Sterling
Words: 2546
Warning(s): Borderline crack. SO MUcH NONSENSE.
Note(s): I feel like I have to apologize for writing this fic. I am so sorry, world. Actual personal headcanon ever since Nate proposed to Sophie. Yep. Welcome to my brain. cartography is probably to blame for Sterling being there but everything else is my fault.

It’s not known to anyone besides James Sterling, several of his associates, and the rest of the Leverage team (who only caught wind of the news a fortnight later, at the tail end of Nate and Sophie’s Honeymoon v1.0), but before the big church wedding held in the Vatican where they were wed as a couple of minor English royalty, Nate and Sophie got married. Unofficially.Collapse )

So, I started playing Hearthstone, Blizzard's online strategy card game. I suck at it but it's a lot of fun anyway! :D If any of you play on the Americas & Southeast Asia server, let's play a game sometime. My battletag's kiroumaru#1424.
